Elonslist is free for private sellers and for every buyer. Listing a Tesla costs nothing, each listing runs 60 days, and renewing is free and unlimited. Browsing, filtering and messaging a seller are free with no account limits. Two things are paid: the optional PulseCheck Verified Listing at $19 one-time per listing, and dealership subscriptions for businesses that need inventory feeds and multiple seats. Elonslist takes no commission on a sale and never handles the money.

PulseCheck is a reading taken from the vehicle itself. The seller connects their Tesla account, and Elonslist reads the VIN, odometer, options and battery state of health directly from the car through Tesla's official API, then publishes the result with the date the vehicle reported it. Each $19 purchase includes two successful readings, so a seller can re-run it later in a listing's life. PulseCheck is not a mechanical inspection and not a history report: it confirms what the car says about itself, which is a different and narrower claim than a car being in good condition.

A battery figure on Elonslist is trustworthy when it carries the PulseCheck badge, which means it is Tesla's own state-of-health measurement read from the vehicle and shown with the date the car reported it. Any other battery percentage on the site is what the seller typed, and it is labeled self-reported. Where Tesla holds no figure for a car — typical of older vehicles or those on older software builds — Elonslist shows nothing rather than substituting an estimate of its own.

Elonslist handles none of these. The sale happens directly between buyer and seller: Elonslist never takes custody of the vehicle, the title, or the funds, provides no escrow, and arranges no transport. Use your bank, a licensed escrow service, or your state's DMV process for the transaction itself, and complete the title transfer through your state. This is the main structural difference between Elonslist and a dealer or a consignment site — the marketplace introduces the two of you and stays out of the money.

Elonslist carries both, and every listing states which. Dealer listings show the dealership's name and link to its storefront page; private-party listings show the seller's display name. Licensed dealers must disclose their status when listing, which most states also require in vehicle advertising. The practical difference: a dealer sale usually comes with paperwork handled for you and sometimes a limited warranty, while a private sale is typically cheaper, has no dealer fees, and is sold as-is with no warranty.

Purchased Full Self-Driving stays with the vehicle in a private sale. FSD bought outright is tied to the car's VIN rather than to the seller's account, so it carries to the next owner — which is exactly why a used Tesla with paid FSD is worth meaningfully more than the same car without it. Three exceptions matter. An FSD subscription never transfers, because it is billed monthly to the owner; Tesla has occasionally run promotions letting an owner move FSD to their next car, in which case it leaves the one being sold; and cars traded in to Tesla and resold by Tesla have sometimes had packages removed. Confirm on the car's own Autopilot screen (Controls → Autopilot) before paying a premium for it.

Free Unlimited Supercharging, often called SC01, is a benefit included on some earlier Model S and Model X vehicles. Where it is attached to the vehicle rather than the owner's account, it does carry to the next buyer, which is why cars that have it command a premium. Elonslist has a dedicated filter for free Supercharging, and on PulseCheck-verified listings the benefit is confirmed from the car's own configuration rather than the seller's description.

The single most effective step is refusing to send money for a car you have not seen in person. Keep the conversation inside Elonslist messaging, which leaves a record; treat urgency, a push to move to text or email, or a request for a deposit to "hold" the car as warning signs. Ask for the VIN and run your own history report. Prefer PulseCheck-verified listings, where the VIN, odometer and options came from the vehicle rather than from a person. Every listing has a report button, and reports go to a human reviewer.

A listing runs for 60 days, and renewing it is free and unlimited. Elonslist emails the seller before a listing expires, and a renew button appears on the seller's dashboard for the final 14 days of the listing's life. Renewing extends it another 60 days and returns it to the top of newest. A listing can carry up to 40 photos, and sellers can mark a car sold at any time, which removes it from search while keeping it in the seller's own history.
